Tips for Finding Books & Articles

Search Strategies for finding books in print
  • Don’t know a particular author or title, start your search by performing a keyword search.
  • Try using AND to combine two keywords to retrieve more specific results.
  • Can’t find what you need in MBU Library Catalog? Click on the MOBIUS Catalog on the JKLC homepage.
  • Click Request by the book title to process your request of the book.

eBooks

  • EBSCO eBooks - contains a large selection of multidisciplinary eBook titles representing a broad range of academic subject matter, and is a strong complement for any academic collection.
  • Google Books - allows you to search within the contents of books and is a good way to locate a specific chapter or reference within a book that is useful to your research. When you find a good book on your topic, be sure to check MBU Library Catalog or MOBIUS Catalog to see if a copy of it is locally available.
Database Search Strategies
Article databases have the following important features that enable you to search more effectively.

1. Use advanced search, instead of basic search.

2. Use Abstract or Subject field search for better search results.

3. Use Boolean Operators AND, OR,  or NOT to include or exclude two keywords.

4. Use Limiters. Limit searches to specific criteria such as publication date, periodical title, full-text, scholarly (peer-reviewed), etc.
